Top New Features in Windows 8

Windows 8 has landed and here are some of the top features the tech world is buzzing about (and you will be too):

Starting Up: At start up, you'll have your notifications (if turned on) right on your lock screen, so you'll be ahead of the game, before you've had your first sip of coffee.

Start Screen: The new, graphical tile Start screen replaces the earlier Windows Start button and is your beginning point for everything you do in Windows 8. From here you'll launch and organise apps, go to your desktop, open Internet Explorer and go to the Windows Store. Personalize your Start screen by pinning, resizing and grouping the apps you rely on.

Get Charmed: Charms are the new Search, Share, Start, Devices and Settings icons that appear on the right side of your screen with a simple swipe from the right. They're easy to access from anywhere, but out of your way while you work.

Manage Applications: Viewing and switching between open applications is a snap with just a swipe or scroll. At your Start screen tap All apps to see a graphical display of all installed apps. Switch between open apps by swiping the corner of your screen to see the most recently used and open apps.

Sync Your Settings: You can "roam" your personalized settings across multiple computers by using a Microsoft account (formerly Live ID). It's simple, and personal.

Picture Password: A picture password, you ask? Instead of insecure number and letter combinations, you can choose a personal photograph and use a series of taps, lines and circles around objects in the photograph as your password. A great way of using the Windows 8 touch interface.

Not using a touch screen? Don't worry. Mouse and keyboard equivalents work throughout Windows 8. How will you take advantage of the new Windows 8?
